South Shore Dance Ensemble was previously known as Dance Workshop of Hanover, a studio that was a cherished part of the Hanover community for more than 50 years. Dance Workshop was founded and directed by MaryLou Cunningham, affectionately known to generations of dancers as Miss MaryLou.
Miss MaryLou dedicated her life to dance. Anyone fortunate enough to learn from her witnessed what it truly means to live your passion. She had a remarkable ability to make every student feel supported and special.
At SSDE, we are committed to honoring Miss MaryLou’s legacy and carrying forward the heart and spirit of Dance Workshop. Each year, we will present the MaryLou Cunningham Memorial Scholarship to a student who embodies the same joy, dedication, kindness, and love for dance that Miss MaryLou shared with everyone around her.
Miss MaryLou and SSDE Artistic Director, Deirdre Lewis (2006).
The recipient of the 2026 MaryLou Cunningham Memorial Scholarship is:
Leianna Craven
